Music in Mackinaw - Claudia Schmidt

To say that Schmidt is simply a performer with a talent to entertain would be a miscarriage of understatement. Schmidt takes her audiences into her world of folk and jazz as easily as the child who discovers the endless universes that exist in a cardboard box.

More than 4 decades as a touring professional have found Michigan native Claudia Schmidt traversing North America as well as Europe in venues ranging from intimate clubs to 4,000 seat theatres, and festival stages in front of 25,000 rapt listeners.

She has recorded nineteen albums of mostly original songs, exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms featuring her acclaimed 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer playing.

Visit Cluadia Schmidt's website for more information about her music.

Music in Mackinaw – The Wilenes

June 28th, 2014

Music in Mackinaw - The Wilenes

This band will take you back to the days when country music was a pocketful of heartfelt ballads and jumping dance hall favorites.

The members of this band have played country music all over the world, from The Grand Ole Opry to Europe's biggest country music festivals. From Canada's major folk festivals to Rockefellar Center and the White House. L.A. to Boston, Iowa to North Carolina, north to south, at home and abroad. As Hank Snow would say, "I've been everywhere." From the traditions of Patsy Cline to Johnny Cash to Hank Williams, from the honky-tonks to the dance halls to the front porches, this band will take you down memory lane or perhaps introduce you to some of the greatest American music ever played. Added to the traditional country material are original songs penned by band member Roger Brown.

Visit The Wilenes website for more information about the band.

Music in Mackinaw – The Ragbirds

June 30, 2014 by Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping

Event Date:

June 21st, 2014

Music in Mackinaw - The Ragbirds

Led by dynamic, energetic front woman and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle, The Ragbirds are a fusion of folk rock and pop hooks over danceable world rhythms stirred with a Celtic fiddler’s bow.

Like a mix tape made by a well-traveled friend, The Ragbirds music is diverse and foreign, yet somehow familiar. The voice at the front of The Ragbirds carries the freshness of the journey itself, and the lyrics point out the scenery like a friendly tour guide.

The energy of multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle demands attention. She is the songwriter and front woman of the band, skillfully switching between violin, mandolin, accordion, banjo and percussion, all while dancing. Zindle wears an infectious smile and a positive message, always spun through a poetic loom.

Visit The Ragbirds website for more information about the band.

Bicycle enthusiasts will once again be filling the area mid June & mid September for a chance to pedal the area's scenic routes and infamous Mackinac Bridge during Mackinaw City's Annual Spring & Fall Shoreline Scenic Bike Tours. Riders from across the Midwest assemble at the Mackinaw City High School early on Saturday morning and will have the opportunity to choose between several different scenic routes, both inland and along the lakeshore.

All routes will be clearly marked by color-coordinated directional arrows to prevent riders from going astray and Big Mac safety wagons, distinguished by flashing lights and magnetic signs, will be patrolling designated areas in case of any cycling mishaps.

Registered participants will also be provided with a light, cookout-style lunch upon completion of their rides including hot dogs, veggies, potato salad, chips & cookies that afternoon back at the school pavilion.

On Sunday, riders over the age of 13 will have the opportunity of a lifetime as they are allowed to pedal across the Mackinac Bridge and take in the picturesque surroundings of the Straits of Mackinac.

The Spring Bike Tour was created in 1992 and the Fall Tour was added in 1994 to compliment the Spring Tour. These tours are designed as a recreation event allowing families to enjoy this healthy activity together.

It takes a Community of involved volunteers to put on this successful ride. Bike tour positions include: food/rest stop organizers; Registration; Lunch; Lunch chefs; Ham operators throughout the ride; Stop hosts; Sag vehicles and route supervisors; Bridge ride directional; Bridge safety vehicles. We would also like to thank the Mackinac Bridge Authority, Shepler's Ferry, the Mackinaw City Police, & Dave Paquet.
