Mackinaw City Paint Out

July 22, 2014 by Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping

Event Date:

August 2nd, 2014

The Mackinaw City Paint Out is scheduled for Saturday August 2nd 10-4pm with check in from 7:00-10:00am at the Historic Village Chapel on Central Avenue. Please bring you canvases to check in so we can date stamp the back. This event will take place during the Heritage festival.

At 3:30 pm artists will be asked to bring their paintings to the Chapel where our judge, Richard Jordan will review the pieces from each participating artist and then select a first second and third place winner. Richard Jordan is a Michigan based painter and the founder of the West Michigan Plein Air Artists. Framing is encouraged for this event but not mandatory. Judging will start at 4pm.

The headlands, Dark Sky Park, McGulpin Point, Wilderness State Park, Mackinaw Crossing along with the Mackinaw City downtown area, marina and bridge park are available for artists interpretation. We do ask that you start and complete your work on location. We can assist you with moving materials, watch your easels for bathroom breaks and bring your lunch and beverages.

This is a volunteer event replicating the Impressionist era where artists would paint and work together for a day in the park.

Questions or a request for a participation form can be emailed to mcaac2012@gmail.com or call Lorie Axtell @ 989-529-0752.

Artist participation is voluntary and the event is a community event and does not offer payment to participate. Artists should be 15 yeas of ago or older to participate if painting without and adult. Artists must be set up and ready to work by 11am. Artists may select to sell their work at the conclusion of the event with a 20% commission going to MCAAC.

Plein Air Painting

July 22, 2014 by Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping

Event Date:

July 12th - July 13th, 2014

Plein Air Painting: The Direct Approach with Richard Jordan

I am an oil painter and the list I’ve made is based on that. However, I know we will have artists who will work either in watercolor or pastel. If you work in watercolor, try to purchase colors that match the listed colors. If you’re a pastel artist please buy a deep warm dark and a deep cool dark — no black.

You are welcome to buy any extra materials I’ve listed if you choose, but it is not necessary.

I will be meeting and painting with you for the first time. I’m very humbled and honored you have decided to take my workshop. We will work hard, but we’ll have lots of fun along the way.

Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions about the materials. My contact information is below:
